This is part of series exploring the atmosphere of the industrial heritage of the West Midlands. The Union Mill was built in 1913. The company was modelled on the famous Birmingham Union Mill, largely as a charitable venture to provide cheap bread to the poor during the period of economic difficulty which followed the Napoleonic wars. The Union Mill stood on the Birmingham Canal until 1989 when it was demolished following a fire.
